Abstract
The biophysical mechanism of accelerated seed ageing and a mathematical mod el of this phenomenon are proposed. The model is based on the theory of rev ersible an irreversible conformational transitions is biological membranes. The model is in a good agreement with the experimental fact of nonmonotono us changes in seed germination during ageing. It is shown that cooperative transitions occur throughout the seed.
