Ig. Stavrovskaya et al., Optimisation of energy dependent processes in liver and brain mitochondriaof rats after inhalation of negative air ions, BIOFIZIKA, 43(5), 1998, pp. 766-771
The effect of negative air ions (NAI) inhalation by rats on energy reaction
s of mitochondria in homogenates of liver and brain was studied. The influe
nce of NAI was investigated under activation of animals by administration o
f physiological dose of adrenaline. Adrenaline administration induced hyper
activation of the rate of phosphorylating oxidation of succinic acid in liv
er and brain mitochondria which was accompanied by oxalacetate inhibition o
f succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) as well as excessive Ca2+ accumulation in l
iver mitochondria. These changes connected with a decrease of coefficient o
f phosphorylation efficiency ADP/O and uncoupler stimulation of respiration
evidenced decrease of energy control of respiration in mitochondria. NAI i
nhalation dimished the rate of hyperactivated respiration and abolished exc
essive Ca2+ accumulation. These changes toghethr with ADP/O coefficient and
DNP stimulation increase evidence improvement of energy control of respira
tion which provide more moderate function of the respiratory chain under ac
tvation by adrenaline. Animals were excited by adrenaline administration. T
his effect was abolished by NAI inhalation, animals relaxed, some fell asle
ep. The data evidence sensitivity of mitochondrial processes in internal or
gans to inhalation of NAI and show participation of mitochondria in realiza
tion of physiological effects of NAI.
