Jc. Fowler et al., Hydroxylamine blocks pre- but not postsynaptic adenosine A(1) receptor-mediated actions in rat hippocampus, BRAIN RES, 837(1-2), 1999, pp. 309-313
The commonly used nitric oxide donor, hydroxylamine (NH,OH), can block or r
everse the inhibition of glutamatergic transmission by adenosine or an aden
osine A, agonist in rat hippocampal slice. In these experiments, hydroxylam
ine did not affect the adenosine A, receptor-mediated depression of postsyn
aptic excitability. We conclude that hydroxylamine acts presynaptically to
counter adenosine A, receptor-mediated inhibition of synaptic transmission.
