Abstract
The commonly used nitric oxide donor, hydroxylamine (NH,OH), can block or r everse the inhibition of glutamatergic transmission by adenosine or an aden osine A, agonist in rat hippocampal slice. In these experiments, hydroxylam ine did not affect the adenosine A, receptor-mediated depression of postsyn aptic excitability. We conclude that hydroxylamine acts presynaptically to counter adenosine A, receptor-mediated inhibition of synaptic transmission. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
