An analysis of the transient response of a floating composite ship section
subjected to underwater shock is presented in this paper. Based on Doubly A
symptotic Approximation (DAA) method, the fluid-structure interaction equat
ion for a partially submerged structure is derived, in which the constituti
ve relation for composite material is implemented and also the effects of t
he free surface are included. The coupled fluid-structure equations, relati
ng structure response to fluid impulsive loading, are solved using coupled
finite-element and boundary-element codes. Transient stress distribution of
the composite ship section induced by the underwater shock is illustrated.
The influences of the boundary conditions on the transient response of the
ship section subjected to underwater shock is studied; and further more, e
ffects of the charge position, the charge weight and the stand-off distance
on the transient stress response are examined. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science L
