: The present study shows beneficial effect of riboflavin during cryopreser
vation of mouse islets. Inclusion of riboflavin in the cryopreservation med
ium led to improved islet recovery as evidenced by increased islet viabilit
y, decreased lipid peroxidation, increased GSH levels and insulin productio
n comparable to freshly isolated islets. Perhaps this is the first report d
epicting the role and action of riboflavin in protecting islets from cryoin
jury.
