Flux-trap magnets based on high-temperature superconductors were studied fo
r their potential as electron-beam control elements. Applications could inc
lude accelerators, klystrons, and mm-wave amplifiers. We have constructed c
ompact magnets using bulk YBCO crystals that exhibit axial fields of 1.0 -
1.2 T at operating temperatures from 65K to 77K, Transverse fields and fiel
d stability have also been measured. Finally, methods and mechanisms involv
ed in pulse-charging the superconducting rings will be discussed.
