The progress of a European-funded project on the ac losses of Bi-2223 tapes
for power applications, co-ordinated by BICC Superconductors, is partially
reviewed. Results of loss measurements by four of the partners are present
ed including: a round-robin of electrical measurements; a consideration of
the influence of the E-J characteristic; measurements at frequencies up to
2.5 kHz and a measurement of the losses in a twisted tape due to an applied
ac field.
