Abstract
This article reports the study of a crack found in an in-service shell. Aft
er analyzing the chemical compositions, microstructure of the welded joint
of steel TTStE36, and according to the macro-crack, the microstructure of t
he crack fracture, the character of the crack is determined. It is a cold c
rack. The genesis of this cold crack is analyzed, and measures to avoid suc
h a cold crack in welded joint of steel TTStE36 are put forward. (C) 1999 P
