Abstract
Future military and naval operations will require substantially increased c onnectivity and communications for force coordination, mission planning, an d tactical execution. The submarine force is seeking to achieve these goals while preserving its important attributes of stealth and survivability. Th e Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has initiated a program in conjunction with the Navy to examine advanced antenna array technologie s to address these needs. This article describes the DARPA approach and APL 's role in the program.
