Electrical resistivity and magnetization measurements have been performed o
n the isotypic compounds Ce3Ni2Ge7 and Ce3Ni2Sn7. The ternary germanide ord
ers antiferromagnetically below T-N = 7.0(2) K, a Neel temperature higher t
han that observed for Ce3Ni2Sn7 [T-N = 3.8(2) K]. This investigation allows
proposal of a direct relationship between the Ce valence and the smallest
interatomic distances d(Ce-Ni) and d(Ce-Sn) for the ternary stannides exist
ing in the Ce-Ni-Sn system.
