Abstract
The present paper is concerned with the optimal control problem for a Gurti n-MacCamy type system describing the evolution of an age-structured populat ion. Necessary optimality conditions are established in the form of an Eule r-Lagrange system and existence of an optimal control is proved using the E keland principle.
