The short range structure of (1 - x)B2O3-xRb(2)O (x = 0.05-0.30) glasses wa
s investigated to study by time-of-flight neutron scattering experiments us
ing the high intensity total scattering spectrometer (HIT). In each correla
tion function of G(r) curve, the first peak appeared at around r = 1.4 Angs
trom which was thought to be due to the B-O correlation in boroxol ring com
posed of trigonal planer BO3 units and tetrahedral BO4 units. The results i
n the short range structure of berate glasses were similar to those which w
ere calculated by two molecular orbital methods. (C) 1999 Published by Else
