Abstract
Emericella indica sp. nov. and a peculiar morphological variant of E. quadr ilineata are described and illustrated. The former is characterized by larg e, smooth, violet ascospores and the latter by apparently budding ascospore s. Analysis of the sequences of the nuclear rDNA ITS region gene of these s pecies and E. nidulans and E. variecolor support our concepts based on morp hological criteria.
