Abstract
Self-assembled coatings of long chain alcohols on nanoparticles of amorphou s iron were formed. FTIR, and XPS measurements demonstrated the formation o f chemical bonds between the substrate and the alcohols. The thermal stabil ity of these coatings was investigated by using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The superparamagnetic be havior of the-coated nanoparticles was defected by magnetization measuremen ts (C) 1999 Acta Metallurgica Inc.
