Km. Shimkus et Ag. Rozanov, Sediments and Late Quarternary sedimentation in the Syria region of the Mediterranian Sea, OKEANOLOGIY, 39(3), 1999, pp. 440-450
Lithological survey of the Mediterranian sediments was carried out along th
e Syria coast during the 27-th cruise of the r/v "Vitjaz" (1993). The Nile
discharge plays a leading role in terrigeneous sedimentation in the southea
st Mediterrenean especially in the deep parts. Sediments discharging from t
he Syria watershed area are important for formation of the recent shelf and
slope deposits. Eolian materials from the Syrian and Arabian deserts were
evaluated by a spoty distribution of quartz. In the Late Quarternary period
terrigeneous sedimentation both from the Syrian and the Nile watershed are
as was not regular. The sedimentation was remarkably enhanced during the sa
propel formation 7000-9000 years BP.
