Abstract
With the licensure of varicella vaccine in March 1995, varicella can now be considered a vaccine-preventable disease. This article reviews the virus t hat causes varicella, the development of varicella vaccine, the perceived b arriers to immunization, and the facts that can overcome these barriers. Th e authors also discuss the expanded indications for use of the vaccine.
