Abstract
This article outlines the burden of pneumococcal disease and the basis for immunity to pneumococcal infections, and discusses the properties of polysa ccharide-protein conjugate vaccines. Also, the immunogenicity and safety of specific pneumococcal conjugate vaccines that have been studied in infants are reviewed.
