In the last decade, interest has increasingly developed in the evaluation o
f data coming from large multicenter and nationwide surveys of patients on
chronic renal replacement therapy (RRT). In the pediatric field, the result
s of these studies have also helped in understanding the effect of differen
t RRT modalities and patient care trends on patient outcomes (1-5).
In Italy a registry of chronic peritoneal dialysis (CPD) pediatric patients
was set up in 1986 with the aims of investigating the use of CPD among the
Italian pediatric dialysis centers, defining the technical problems, and e
valuating the clinical results (6).
In this paper, we report the data of the patient population of the Italian
Registry of Pediatric CPD, collected over a 12-year period (1986-1997), foc
using on CPD modality, peritonitis, and patient and technique survival.
