Thin foils of Makrofol E prepared with and without inclusion of a free radi
cal scavenger (DPPH), were irradiated at the Tandar facilities. 374 keV and
50 keV O-16(++) ions from a Varian Ion Implanter and Li-7(+) ions at diffe
rent energies from a Tandem accelerator were used. Replicas of the etched f
oils were observed by transmission electron microscopy. Track diameters exh
ibited a slight difference between the treated and untreated foils in the c
ase of irradiation with O-16 ions. A larger difference between the groups i
n the case of Li-7(+) ions was found.
