Reactions between heavy ions at energies exceeding several hundreds of MeV
per nucleon have given the opportunity to study high excited nuclear matter
. The present experimental and theoretical investigations are particularly
dedicated to the possibility that the multifragmentation reaction channel c
an be a manifestation of the liquid-gas phase transition in finite nuclear
systems. In the last few years the most extensive studies regarding this pr
oblem have been done-by the Aladin collaboration. They investigated the pro
jectile decay in interactions of high energy Au beams with various targets.
For recent status of their experiments see Begemann-Blaich et al.,1998, Tr
autmann et al., 1998 and references therein.
Since the data originating from the experiments with high energy Au beams a
re mostly connected with the projectile decay our intention in this experim
ent was to explore the target decay in such interactions. In this paper we
report our first results of the investigation of target products from the i
nteraction of :1 A GeV Au ions with Pb target. We present the results regar
ding charge and kinematical characteristics and correlations for events hav
ing two fragments with atomic numbers Z>5 in correlation in exit channel. B
inary events originating from fission process were excluded from our consid
erations.
