A contribution to the knowledge of the water beetle fauna of Pulau Tioman,Peninsular Malaysia (Coleoptera : Noteridae, Dytiscidae, Hydrophilidae, Hydraenidae, Scirtidae, Limnichidae)

A recent survey of the water beetle fauna of Pulau Tioman revealed 11 speci es of the families Noteridae, Dytiscidae, Hydrophilidae, Hydraenidae, Scirt idae and Limnichidae. All identified species (Canthydrus flammulatus, Lacco nectus krikkeni, Lacconectus corayi, Sternolophus rufipes, Helochares fulig inosus, Oocyclus sumatrensis tiomanensis and Amphiops coomani) are widespre ad in the Indo-Malayan region. The small size of the island, presence of fe w lentic habitats, the steep and fast flowing streams are responsible for t he lack of a rich aquatic beetle fauna. The distributional range and ecolog y are discussed for each species.
