This article focuses on two central questions, the validity of the values s
tructure for Mexico, as specified by Schwartz' (1992) theory, and the relat
ion between this structure and the religiosity of our subjects. Falling bac
k on this theory and on previous work of Schwartz and Huismans (1995) for p
redicting correlations between the values structure and other variables, we
present structural and correlational analyses for a Mexican sample. All in
all, our data show for Mexico, as for other countries of the Spanish langu
age, that it is possible to apply the theory of Schwartz for analyzing and
describing the structure of values. Furthermore, his model proves to be use
ful for predicting systematic correlations with religiosity. Although our p
redictions were not perfect, Schwartz' theory proved once more to be a prom
ising frame of reference for conducting cross-cultural studies.
