Abstract
Reaction of anils with alkyl halides under high pressure (10 kbar) was stud ied. Alkylation in polar media (dioxane or acetonitrile) followed by hydrol ysis yields pure N-monoalkylanilines in high yields. Optimum conditions for high-pressure alkylation were found.
