I. Iga et al., Role of the intramolecular multiple scattering on electron diffraction from nitrogen molecule in the intermediate energy range, THEOCHEM, 468(3), 1999, pp. 241-251
We report a systematic study on the role played by the intramolecular multi
ple scattering on elastic electron-nitrogen molecular collisions in the 50
eV-1 keV energy range. In our study, the elastic differential cross-section
s are calculated using two theoretical approaches: the independent atom mod
el and the overlap atom model. The Schwinger variational iterative method i
s used in the OAM calculations. Our study reveals that even for a simple di
atomic molecule, such as N-2, the contribution of the intramolecular multip
le scattering effect is very important for incident energies E-0 less than
or equal to 300 eV. However, the influence of this effect decreases rapidly
with increasing incident energies. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All righ
