In contrast to other disciplines, a peculiar historiography has established
itself in pedagogics which - in its tradition - is rather educative and no
t so much empricially oriented. The model - still effective today - was pro
vided by KARL VON RAUMER With his "History of Pedagogics" (1872/73), which
focusses on the biographies and attitudes of prominent personalities with m
odel function. The main objective, mediated through history, consists in co
ntributing to the creation of a professional ethics for future teachers.
