Abstract
Placentae were obtained at delivery in 14 pregnancies complicated by postma
turity (gestational age greater than or equal to 40 weeks and 10 days) and
in 23 uncomplicated pregnancies (gestational age < 40 weeks). The incidence
of apoptotic nuclei was significantly greater in the placentae from the po
stmature pregnancies.
