Abstract
An electrically tunable optical fibre Mach-Zehnder interferometer is report ed, based on the magnetostrictive effect. The period and peak wavelength of the interference spectrum can be electrically tuned to match the Internati onal Telecommunication Union's standard wavelength grid and so it is promis ing to be used in dense wavelength division multiplexing technology.
