A method as well as an experimental set-up are described allowing on-line s
urface tension measurements directly inside stirred reactors at any tempera
ture. The method is based on the finding that the difference between the ma
ximum and the minimum pressure during bubble formation correlates strongly
with the surface tension of the surrounding solution. Examples of applicati
ons are given concerning the discrimination of different surfactant solutio
ns, the formation of surface-active compounds during chemical reactions, an
d emulsion polymerizations,
