Nondisplaced fractures of the scaphoid are traditionally treated with cast
immobilization, but athletes and patients with high demands on their dexter
ity and time find this an unsuitable treatment option. Percutaneous and art
hroscopic screw fixation of the scaphoid provides an alternative treatment
method that minimizes soft-tissue trauma, provides stable fixation, and red
uces rehabilitation time. This percutaneous technique also offers the advan
tage of not requiring placement of a jig. This article discusses treatment
options for acute nondisplaced scaphoid fractures focusing on percutaneous
screw fixation.
