Abstract
Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor which has recently herd its clinica l license extended to include maintenance therapy for the treatment of refl ux oesophagitis, Helicobacter pylori eradication and short-term intravenous administration, This article reviews the history of gastric gastric acid s ecretion and examines the role of proton pump inhibitors, particularly pant oprazole, in the treatment of acid-related disorders.
