Abstract
A novel solution of Saito's integral equation for random scission of p olymer chains having a broad distribution of molecular weights has bee n developed. This solution is in agreement with standard numerical sol utions of Saito's integral equation and is also in agreement with the experimental data for visbreaking of isotactic polypropylene, confirmi ng that the visbreaking of isotactic polypropylene does indeed involve random scission with no long chain branching or crosslinking.
