We have measured subshell resolved L-K electron transfer cross sections fro
m the L subshell of the Yb target to the vacant K-shell of the Si projectil
e at energies varying between 2-4.5 MeV/A. In addition, the L subshell ioni
zation cross sections are also obtained for Yb. It is observed that contrar
y to expectations, the L-2 subshell electron transfer as well as ionization
cross sections are substantially lower than the corresponding cross sectio
ns for the L-1 subshell.
