Highly charged neon ions were studied by the beam foil method in the visibl
e region. The lines due to transitions of 2s7l-2s8l' in berylliumlike Ne VI
I were found to be split into l-components by the perturbation of the nearb
y lying multiply excited 2p5l levels to the 2s8l [1]. In the present work t
he decay was measured by the beam-foil time-of-flight technique. The transi
tions 2s7i-2s8k (388.48 nm) and 2s7h-2s8h (386.34 nm) show a very slow deca
y with multiexponential features due to the heavy cascading. The remaining
transitions with lower l decay faster depending upon the admixture with 2p5
l states. The observed multiexponential decay of 2s7i-2s8k was well reprodu
ced on the basis of the excitation model according to sigma(n) proportional
to n(-3) and sigma(l) proportional to 2l + 1.
