We have measured the relative transition probabilities of about 100 3s-3p a
nd 3p-3d lines of neutral fluorine in the visible and near-infrared spectru
m with a wall-stabilized high-current are, which is operated under conditio
ns very dose to partial local thermodynamic equilibrium. The set of measure
d lines includes about 40 intersystem transitions. Our data have been place
d on an absolute scale by normalizing several strong transitions to the res
ults of the OPACITY Project calculations, which are expected to be quite ac
curate for such transitions. We estimate that the uncertainties of our abso
lute transition probability values are in the +/- 15% to +/- 20% range, whi
le the uncertainties of the relative values do not exceed 6%, except for ve
ry weak transitions. Our results indicate that especially for 3p-3d transit
ions appreciable departures from LS coupling are encountered. Comparisons w
ith other results indicate that earlier experimental data agree well with o
urs on a relative scale, but need to be renormalized. [S1050-2947(99)03408-
