Abstract
It was established by experiment that the failure rate for quartz glass-cer amics with fusion in a high-enthalpy gas stream depends markedly on the the rmal conductivity of the surface layer, which may be reduced by excluding t he radiation component of heat transfer through the alloying of material wi th, for instance, chromium oxide. It is possible to use plasma streams to f orm on the surface of steels the wear resistant refractory coatings based o n borides and carbides.
