This analysis deals with the influence of misalignment (static and dynamic)
of a tilting-pad journal bearing. Three different isothermal cases were co
mpared: the initial bearing clearance and viscosity, the initial bearing cl
earance and effective viscosity deduced from a thermohydrodynamic analysis,
and the operating bearing clearance and effective viscosity deduced from a
thermoelastohydrodynamic analysis. It will be established that increasing
the misalignment amplitude and dynamic load and decreasing the lubricant vi
scosity and clearance induce large changes in the bearing characteristics (
the minimum film thickness, maximum pressure, axial flow and misalignment m
oment).
