Abstract
A method for the gas chromatography-mass spectrometry determination of fatt y acids (C-8-C-22) in toilet soap and laundry detergent is reported. The me thod involves an extraction step with dichloromethane followed by esterific ation using BF3 in methanolic solution. Quantification was carried out usin g selected ion monitoring (SIM). Tridecanoic acid tvas used as a surrogate standard. The applicable concentration range was 0.3 to 100.0 mg g(-1). The method was applied satisfactorily to the determination of these compounds in toilet soap and washing-machine detergent.
