Teratogenic studies of oxacillin in humans have not been published. The pop
ulation-based data-set of the Hungarian Case-Control Surveillance of Congen
ital Abnormalities, 1980-1996 contains 22,865 foetuses or newborns with con
genital abnormalities and 38,151 matched control newborns without congenita
l abnormalities. The mothers of 14 cases and 19 controls were treated with
oral oxacillin during pregnancy. A teratogenic risk of oxacillin was not de
tected in this case-control study.
