Abstract
Potential of using cascaded chi((2)) processes for all-optical switchi ng in nonlinear directional coupler geometry is investigated. Using se cond harmonic field as coupling agent in a symmetric pair of waveguide s is shown to be capable of attaining coupling efficiency in excess of 50%. For the asymmetric pair of waveguides, existence of a coupling t hreshold has been found.
