Abstract
The strength behaviour of ceramic materials is generally identified by a br oad scattering of material data as well as a reduction of strength under me chanical load over time. Superimposed on the fatigue behaviour, creep defor mation at higher temperatures can occur additionally, In tests, the effects of various loading rates as well as an oscillating mechanical load are exa mined with regard to the bending strength at 1250 degrees C of samples of g as pressure sintered Si3N4 (GPSSN). The analysis of the fatigue behaviour o f ceramic materials is especially considered, The presented material can be considered as an example that shows how generally accepted testing practic es for determining the fatigue behaviour of ceramic materials need to be cr itically examined.
