Abstract
Novel subphthalocyanines with long thioalkyl chains exhibit hexagonal colum nar mesophases at room temperature; their inherent first hyperpolarizabilit y values (beta) measured by hyper-Rayleigh scattering (HRS) with fluorescen ce suppression are (189 +/- 30) x 10(-30) esu at 1300 nm.
