The aim of this study was to report the outcome of a court diversion scheme
in England for mentally disordered offenders. Sixty-five (34%) offenders w
ere followed up and interviewed concerning their aftercare from the diversi
on. The results initially described the data and reasons for the missing po
pulation Sixty-five offenders were then described in term of their charges,
diagnoses, types of recommendations from the community psychiatric nurses
for diversion and the final decision from the court. What followed were the
results focusing on the aftercare that the offenders had received, six mon
ths after diversion. The aftercare included whether or not they had sought
help from mental health professionals, probation officers, social workers,
community psychiatric nurses and voluntary agencies. Also, opinions were co
llected on further support that they wanted to receive.
