This article focuses on the ability of carbon to form zero dimensional
quantum dots of subnanometer dimensions in the form of fullerenes, an
d one-dimensional quantum wires in the form of carbon nanotubes. A rev
iew is here presented of the various carbon nanostructures connected w
ith fullerenes and carbon nanotubes in the context of nanotechnology.
