The morphology of C-60 crystals grown from the vapor phase have been studie
d. In all observations, only hexagonal and rectangular shaped crystal faces
were found. Very different morphology, highly faceted {111} faces and flat
{100} faces were observed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and ato
mic force microscopy (AFM).
The highly regular shape and similar distance between all neighboring macro
steps observed for the {111} faces can be explained by taking into account
that edges of two adjacent {111} and {100} planes can act as step sources.
