In-situ alloying process of Ni-Fe system on synthesis of nanosized Ni-
Fe powder by hydrogen reduction of ball milled NiO-Fe2O3 powder was in
vestigated. It was found that the alloying of Ni-Fe during reduction o
f NiO-Fe2O3 was enhanced in the ball milled oxide mixture. Such rapid
alloying process yielded the stable gamma Ni-Fe alloy aggregates consi
sting of 20 similar to 70 nm nanosized alloy particles. Basically, in-
situ alloying by nanosized effect (chemical homogeneity with large sur
face area) during reduction process is believed to be responsible for
the formation of nanoalloy powder. (C) 1997 Acta Metallurgica Inc.
