Abstract
A JEOL4000EX microscope operated in the Lorentz mode was used to analy ze the magnetic structure in pulsed laser deposited films. The films c onsist of grains of 20 nm with Nd2Fe14B as the hardmagnetic phase. The thickness of the grain boundary is between 1 and 2 nm. Most domains f ollow the grain boundaries, some, however, seem to intrude the grains. The influence of film thickness on the magnetic properties is emphasi zed. An increase of film thickness from 100 nm to 200 nm leads to a de crease in domain size from 500 nm to 100 nm, while the crystalline pro perties remain the same. (C) 1997 Acta Metallurgica Inc.
