A mass spectrometer for analyzing the content of water-dissolved substances
under field conditions is described. Special attention is given to the dev
elopment of a portable mass analyzer and a sample introduction unit. The de
vice is intended for systems of direct automated control of water reservoir
contamination. Depending on the required level of autonomy during operatio
n and the functioning capacity of the device, its overall dimensions and po
wer consumption can be varied. Tests of a model prototype having dimensions
of 370 x 420 x 570 mm and a mass of 23 kg, and consuming the power less th
an or equal to 40 W are performed. The resolving power of the device at a l
evel of less than or equal to 3% is 100; relative sensitivity is less than
or equal to 10(-6).
