Abstract
A computationally simple, integral solution for heat transfer through periodic multilayer materials is used to analyze the results of pulse- heating experiments conducted near 1200 K. Experimental results obtain ed on 19 mu m thick coatings with 10 bilayers of Cu and Fe and on 12 m u m thick coatings with 10 and 40 bilayers of aluminum oxide and Mo, a ll deposited on 75 mu m thick Mo substrates, are presented. The source of reduced thermal conductivity in multilayer materials is examined. (C) 1997 Acta Metallurgica Inc.
