Using the CH3OH molecular energy levels data base management program, it wa
s deduced that when a CH3OH laser is pumped by CO2-9P (16) line, there shou
ld be a FIR laser line of 918 mu m wavelength which has not been report ed
before, corresponding to a transition in a ground-state reversed three-leve
l energy system. The spectrum of this new line was calculated by solving th
e density matrix equations. Experimentally, the CH3OH FIR laser line of 918
mu m wavelength was obtained by pumping with a TEA-CO2 laser. The experime
ntal results were in good agreement with the theoretical calculations.
