M. Saito et al., Measurement of surface orientations of transparent objects by use of polarization in highlight, J OPT SOC A, 16(9), 1999, pp. 2286-2293
A method is proposed for obtaining surface orientations of transparent obje
cts by use of polarization in highlight. Since the highlight, the specular
component of light; reflected from objects, is observed only near the specu
lar direction, it reveals only limited parts of an object's surface. To obt
ain the orientations of the whole surface of an object, we employ a spheric
al extended light source. We report the experimental apparatus, a shape rec
overy algorithm, and a performance evaluation. (C) 1999 Optical Society of
